Q. Can’t I just do the backup myself?
A. You could do the backup yourself; of course there are a few things you need to consider.
- Your Time – With a cost of about 84 cents a day, we assume it would take you at least 15min to do an offsite backup every day. So unless you make $3.40/hr you would be losing money do do the backup yourself.
- Also what do you do if you’re sick, have a meeting, and forget about those vacations, you gotta do those backups.
- Oh by the way, can you encrypt and secure your backup? We do every time, and we’ll send you an email when your backup is complete. Probably the best 84 cents you’ll ever spend!
Q. Won’t the backup take a long time to complete if its backing up to your servers?
A. Actually the average backup takes about 11 minutes to complete on a 1.5Mbps internet connection. There are a few reasons why we are better than most backup solutions you’ll find:
- Our system performs incremental backups, meaning we only backup the changed files. While this is certainly not new or special, our system also uses a technology called In File Delta this allows our backup system to basically look at the changed files and see what parts have changed and only backup those particular changes, further reducing the size of the backup job.
- NO Bottlenecks! Because of our world class datacenters we allow un-throttled connections to our servers, this means you may backup as fast as you can connect to us. While other providers only allow certain speed connections, BlueWave Offsite Backup won’t slow you down!
Q. What happens if your backup server fails?
A. Well unfortunately things can happen, but fortunately good planning can help out. Once your data reaches our backup server, it is immediately co-located in a geographically different datacenter on one of our other backup servers. In addition each server offers triple redundancy. Our world class datacenters provide redundant internet connection from multiple carriers, diesel generators, advanced fire & theft protection systems… everything you’d expect in a world class datacenter.
Q. How do I know if it is working?
A. We provide email notification for every backup job. The emails can be sent to several email addresses. In addition, what really separates us from other providers is we actually monitor the backup jobs for every client, and we’ll know before you do if there is a problem with your backup. So you will always know what was backed up, how long it took and if there were any errors or issues.
Q. Do our users need to be logged out for the backup to work?
A. No. Our offsite backup can backup open files, so your users are free to continue to work right through the backup.
